Use the timer when you already know how long the work should last. A single block counts down the hours, minutes, and seconds you enter, or a preset from 15 seconds through 60 minutes. The sequence on this same page runs focus and break steps one after another. There is no second address for that sequence. The control's name is Study Mode.
One block or a sequence
A single block is a length you already know. A sequence is focus and break steps on this same page. This is not time that is already passing. An alarm at a clock time is for an hour on the device clock, not for a number of minutes.
Set the length before you start
- Enter hours, minutes, and seconds, or choose a preset. The 25-minute preset is one reading block. The 45-minute preset is also one block.
- Start begins the block. Pause freezes whatever is left. Resume builds a new end time from that frozen remainder.
- Reset returns to the duration you set. Restart begins that duration again. Full screen enlarges the digits.
- Open Study Mode on this page for focus and break steps. Change a step's length only while the sequence is idle. Running and paused lock those fields.
What this page counts
- Start, pause, resume, reset, and restart. The single timer does not start the next block by itself.
- The preset row has fifteen lengths, 15 seconds through 60 minutes, and it includes 25 minutes and 45 minutes. Each preset is a button on this page. None of them is its own address.
- When the block ends, the sound you picked can play. Volume controls that sound, and Stop sound cuts the one that is playing. The browser may stay silent until you have clicked the page.
- A progress bar for the share of the block that is left. The remaining time follows the target time, not a count of screen updates.
Focus and break steps
Study Mode is the name of the sequence on this page. It starts as 25 minutes, 5 minutes, 25 minutes, and 5 minutes. Each step has its own duration and an optional label. You can keep from one step to eight. Repeat on returns to the first step after the last one. Repeat off ends after the last step. The length fields stay locked while a step is running or paused, so you change them before you start. There is no separate address for this sequence.
A 25-minute reading block, then a short break
- One 25-minute reading block uses the single timer and the 25-minute preset.
- A reading block followed by a short break uses the sequence on this page. A deadline date is the other page, for a calendar moment rather than a duration you type.
What pause and a closed tab do
- Time left is worked out from the target again when you return. A background tab can slow the drawing. It does not move the target.
- Once the tab is gone, or the system has stopped the browser, this page has no way to play the completion sound.
- Hide the tab and the completion sound can arrive late or not at all. iOS and Safari hold that sound back more often than desktop Chrome.
- Sound usually waits for a tap or a click on the page. If playback fails, the page still shows that the block has finished.
- This timer is a page in the browser. It is not the alarm built into the phone. Clearing site data can remove the saved timer.
- Close the browser in the middle of a sequence and the sound for the steps you missed is gone. The next visit lands on the step that matches the time now.
Questions while you plan the block
Should this be one block, or a sequence of focus and breaks?
Use the single timer when the length is one number you already know. Use Study Mode on this same page when focus and break steps should follow one another. Study Mode has no separate address.
When can I change the length of a step?
Change each step's hours, minutes, and seconds while the sequence is idle. Those fields lock while a step is running or paused. You can keep from one step to eight, and each step can have an optional label stored on this device.
What does pause keep, and what does resume continue?
Pause holds the time that is left. Resume sets a new target from that remaining time. Reset returns to the duration you entered.
What happens to a sequence if the browser was closed?
Opening the page again moves to the step that fits the current time. Steps that were missed do not play a sound. While the tab is closed, this page cannot play a sound.
Which control starts a 25-minute reading block?
The 25-minute preset on the single timer. The sequence also starts at 25 minutes, then 5, then 25, then 5, and you can edit those lengths before you start. The 45-minute preset is one block. There is no 50-minute preset.
Does the single timer start another block when it finishes?
No. The single timer stops at the end of the length you set. Repeat, on the sequence only, returns to the first step after the last one. Repeat off ends the sequence after the last step.
How many focus and break steps can one sequence hold?
From one step to eight. Each step has its own duration. The length fields are locked while the sequence is running or paused.
Why might the finished block show on screen while the room stays quiet?
The browser can block sound until you click or tap a control, and a background tab can delay it. The page still shows that the block has finished. Closing the tab means the sound will not play.
