Laps
Start the count, mark a lap, and give that lap a name of up to 60 characters. The list holds 100 laps. Copy it, or download alarmticar-stopwatch-laps.csv. While this page stays open, the running count follows the browser's monotonic clock, so changing the system time does not rewind it.
A stopwatch that keeps the lap list
This page counts upward from zero and stores each lap with an optional name. A known length of minutes is the other page when the count should reach zero. A deadline on the calendar waits for a date. This page measures time that is already passing, and the live measurement stops when the page is gone.
Mark the laps, then take the list with you
- Start the count. Pause keeps the elapsed time where it is, and Resume continues from that held time.
- Lap stores the total so far, the time since the previous lap, and a name of up to 60 characters if you type one.
- Copy the list, or download it. Reset clears the elapsed time and the laps. Full screen makes the digits easier to see.
What the lap list holds
- Start, pause, resume, and a reset that clears the count.
- The list holds 100 laps. A row shows that lap's duration, how it differs from the previous lap, and the total. The shortest laps are marked Best.
- Full screen enlarges the digits when the browser allows it.
- Each lap can take a name of up to 60 characters. Copy the list, or download alarmticar-stopwatch-laps.csv. The columns are Lap, Name, Lap Time, Total Time, Difference.
A practice set with names
- Name the rounds in a workout or the sections of a talk, then read which round was shortest.
- Keep a study block and the break after it as two named laps, then copy the list.
What the count depends on
- While the page is open, elapsed time comes from the browser's monotonic clock. A background tab may stop drawing. The count is not a sum of screen updates, so coming back shows the time that passed.
- A reload cannot continue the same monotonic segment. If the stopwatch was running, the missing stretch is estimated from the system clock, and then a new monotonic segment starts.
- Changing the system time, or letting the operating system correct the clock, can skew that reload estimate. The page does not treat the estimate as a certified measurement.
- Closing the tab or quitting the browser stops the live measurement. Opening the page later can add the system-clock gap when a running session was saved. The stopwatch does not keep time while the browser is closed.
- Clearing site data removes the saved session, including lap names. This is a web page, not a dedicated timing device.
Questions about named laps
How do I name a lap?
Mark the lap, then type a name of up to 60 characters on that row. A lap with no name is still kept. The list holds 100 laps.
How do I take the lap list with me?
Copy laps puts the visible list on the clipboard. Download CSV saves alarmticar-stopwatch-laps.csv in this browser. There is no server copy.
Which columns are in the CSV?
The header is Lap, Name, Lap Time, Total Time, Difference. A lap without a name leaves the name cell empty.
What comes back after I refresh?
A paused session returns with the saved elapsed time and the laps, including names. A running session adds the time away as an estimate from the system clock, then continues. A system-clock change can skew that gap. A lap saved without a name still returns.
Does a background tab lose the elapsed time?
The elapsed time still follows the monotonic clock if the page has not been destroyed. The browser may pause drawing. When you return, the display catches up. This is a web page, not a certified timing instrument.
Does closing the browser stop the measurement?
The live count stops when the page is gone. Reopening can restore a saved session. If that session was running, the time away is only a system-clock estimate, not time the stopwatch kept while the browser was closed.
