Time left until a deadline
–– days ––:––:––
Choose a future date and time
Use this page when the fact you know is a future date and time on this device. The count is days, hours, minutes, and seconds until that moment. It does not start from a duration you type. Nothing runs until you press Set. Reaching zero does not play a sound.
A date, not a number of minutes
This page watches a calendar moment on this device. It is not time that is already passing. The timer starts from a length such as 25 minutes. If you only need the number of days, or the Monday–Friday count, use the date calculator and skip the live count.
Name the deadline, then set it
- Pick the hand-in date and the local time. An empty form suggests a time about an hour from now, and the count stays idle until Set.
- Add a title such as essay draft if you want one. It can be up to 100 characters, it stays in this browser, and it is shown as plain text.
- Press Set to start watching that deadline. Reset throws the saved target away. Full screen is only a larger view of the same numbers. Share copies the title, the target, and this page's address, which is one address for every countdown. At zero the page says Completed and stays quiet.
What the count shows
- The running count splits into days, hours, minutes, and seconds, and a bar shows how much of the span is left. At zero the status is Completed, with no sound.
- The optional title holds up to 100 characters. It lives in this browser and is rendered as plain text, so markup in the title is not run.
- Full screen, and sharing or copying the title, the target, and this page address. A failed share shows an error on the page. No separate address is created for one countdown.
A Friday hand-in
- Title essay draft, Friday at 17:00 on this device. An alarm at a clock time is the page that can play a sound, and only while that page stays open.
- Any later moment on this device that you want to keep in view, such as the start of a term.
Refresh, sharing, and no sound at zero
- The days left are the target moment minus the clock on this device. A wrong device clock means a wrong countdown.
- A background tab may draw less often. When you come back, the page compares that same target with the device clock again.
- No server keeps the count going. A refresh restores a target that is still saved in this browser. If that moment has passed, the page shows Completed. Clearing site data removes the save.
- Set the deadline in this device's local time. This page will not retell that moment as Seoul time or London time.
- Reaching zero does not play a sound.
Questions about a deadline you are watching
How is a deadline date different from a block of minutes?
This page starts from a future date and time on this device. The timer starts from a length you type, such as 25 minutes. Days on this page stay separate from the hours, minutes, and seconds.
What is the title for?
The title names the saved target in this browser, for example essay draft. It can be up to 100 characters, it is shown as plain text, and the same words go out with Share.
What does a refresh restore?
The target still saved in this browser. If that moment is ahead, the count continues from it. If it has passed, the page shows Completed. No server is counting in the meantime.
What does Share send?
The title, the target, and the address of this countdown page. The person who receives it does not get a separate countdown address. If sharing fails, the page shows an error.
Does reaching zero make a sound?
No. Zero shows Completed and stays quiet. A sound at a clock time belongs on the alarm page, and that sound needs the alarm page to stay open.
Can this page show the same deadline in another city's time zone?
No. The date and time are the local time of this device. A wall time you want to read in other cities belongs on the time zone converter.
What leaves this browser if I clear the site data?
The saved target and its title. Opening the page after that starts from an empty form. The suggested time is about an hour ahead, and nothing runs until you press Set.
